Completed 2025
The Georg Fischer Casting Solutions facility in Augusta, GA is a newly completed greenfield project featuring processes dedicated to high-pressure die casting for structural components used in automotive and aerospace applications. The facility is arranged into multiple contiguous areas enclosing approximately 342,000 square feet of production and office space. Construction consists primarily of structural steel interior columns and steel bar joists for roof framing. The exterior walls are tilt wall construction, with panel thicknesses ranging from 8" to 14".

Site conditions require ground improvements in the form of concrete rigid inclusions to support sustained heavily loaded slab areas—ranging from 1,000 psf to 2,000 psf—and die cast equipment zones within the production spaces. Building columns are supported by rammed aggregate piers throughout the facility. Production area slabs, designed with synthetic macrofibers, range from 7" to 12" thick.

The primary casting hall encompasses approximately 76,000 square feet and houses inbound material receiving areas along the east wall, with truck access into the facility. It includes aluminum melting equipment and four die cast machines, with foundations installed to accommodate two additional die cast machines in future phases. The footprint of this portion of the facility measures roughly 100 feet by 760 feet, with deep long-span roof joists framed approximately 54 feet above the plant floor. Tilt-up shear wall panels ranging in thickness from 12 to 14 inches enclose the space, with the tallest panels reaching 58 feet in height.

An 80-metric-ton bridge crane spans 80 feet and traverses roughly 480 feet along the length of the hall, operating over the die cast equipment. A 15-metric-ton single-leg gantry crane operates at the west end of the casting hall, covering an area of approximately 39 feet by 140 feet. The west wall of the casting hall is framed with steel girts and insulated metal panels (IMP), allowing for future expansion and anticipated crane access into the future space.

To the south of the casting hall is an approximately 240-foot by 760-foot production hall housing heat treatment and passivation equipment for cast products. This space is enclosed by tilt-up panels serving as lateral shear walls, with a maximum panel height of 50 feet.

In the southwest corner of the facility is the product storage and shipping area, measuring 118 feet by 360 feet, with truck dock positions located along the east wall.

North of the casting hall is an approximately 42,000-square-foot single-story office area. The perimeter walls of the office consist of IMP cladding over cold-formed wall framing. Lateral support for this portion of the structure is provided by a combination of steel braced frames and tilt-up shear walls.
